Category 1: Blocks - 18 years and under
Prizes in this category are:
First Place - product to the value of $100
Second Place - product to the value of $50
Block size: 12 ½ “ x 12 ½” unfinished - 12” x 12” finished
Any construction technique may be used to create the block in the 18 and under block categories (pieced, embroidered, appliqué, blanket stitch by hand or machine), but must be done solely by the entrant. These blocks are not to be quilted.
Category 2: Blocks - 18 years and above
Prizes in each of these sub-categories are:
First Place - product to the value of $150
Second Place - product to the value of $75
Block size: 12 ½ “ x 12 ½” unfinished - 12” x 12” finished
Construction techniques are sub-category specific.
These blocks are not to be quilted.
2a. Pieced
Either by hand or machine
2b. Traditional Hand Applique
All appliqué edges are to be turned under and stitched by hand to a background fabric.
2c. Naïve Hand Applique
Appliqué pieces can be affixed to the background with or without fusible webbing using any embroidery stitches done by hand. All edges to be stitched by hand.
2d. Machine Applique /Embroidery
Any fancy stitch, including the satin or blanket stitch or any machine embroidery or free form embroidery design may be used to affix the appliqué pieces to the background fabric.
Category 3: Mini Quilt
Prizes this category are:
First Place - product to the value of $500
Second Place - product to the value of $250
Quilt Size: The completed quilt is to be - no smaller than 30” on any side, and no larger than 50” on any side.
The quilt can be square, rectangular or have shaped edges within the size limitations. The quilt must be done solely by the entrant.
Any construction technique, block size or setting may be used to create the quilt in this category. The quilt must be finished by quilting through the top, wadding and backing by hand or machine, completely bound, with a label and a 4” rod pocket or other means of hanging the quilt attached.
Category 4: Group Quilt
Prizes this category are:
First Place - product to the value of $1500
Second Place - product to the value of $500
Quilt Size: The completed quilt must be no smaller than 60” x 85”.
This category is for groups of two or more people. All participants in this category must sign the entry form and designate a single person to accept the prize.
Any construction technique, block size or setting may be used to create the quilt in this category. The quilt must be finished by quilting through the top, wadding and backing by hand or machine, completely bound, with a label acknowledging everyone who worked on the quilt and a 4” rod pocket or other means of hanging the quilt attached.
Judge’s Special Award of Merit
This award may be given at the discretion of the judges.
